The year 2017 has come to an end. A lot happened during those 365 days for School on the Boat. Let’s go back in time and see what made it a wonderful year!

We truly thank you for your tremendous support for the past year.

Thanks to you and our collaboration we have been able to achieve so many projects for the children of School on the Boat. We enjoyed working with you and we hope we will have a chance to do so again in the future.

We would like to share a retrospective in order to recall all the wonderful events that happened to us. And finally, we wish you a very Happy New Year. May 2018 be all about happiness, peace and success!

  • Green project, From Boulogne to Hanoi:

  • Collecting the trashes

  • Visit of the waste treatment plant

  • Cuc Phuong

The From Boulogne-sur-Mer to Hanoi project and the visit of the Cuc Phuong Natural Park. During the visit the kids and parents observed the rich Vietnamese fauna and flora. It was a day full of emotions followed, the day after, by the visit of the Tue Vien organic farm. Educative games about recycling and the environment were organized. Special thanks to Hang, the AFEO volunteer who came to manage the games organization! We would also take this opportunity to thank Keep Hanoi Clean and the families who participated to the raising awareness and cleaning day.

After this first step of work around this wide topic, the ecology and respect of the environment, Olivia and Gaëtan, the founders of From Boulogne-sur-Mer to Hanoi project, are going to develop and spread the word about it. They will give feedback to the Pas-de-Calais province through a pictures exhibition and an exchange on the international volunteering.

  • Support financier HIWC renouvelé pour :

  • Develop Tutoring program

  • Financing Cat Ba

  • Training reproductive health

Great news for School on the Boat: our partnership with HIWC has been renewed for a year in the frame of the development of the tutoring program! Created in 2011 at the same time as the organization, this programme was at the beginning organized at the families’ where the tutors helped the kids with their homework.

But this is last year that the projects took a greater dimension when SOTB got an office. In April, 14 kids were registered for the tutoring programme and 12 tutors were teaching them Litterature, Mathematics and English. The objective: stabilize the programme, develop a pre-tutoring activity but mainly involve the tutors among the SOTB team work and the parents in the following of their kid ‘s schooling.

  • Mot Hai Ba Festival :

Organized by the NGO School on the Boat, the Mot Hai Ba Festival is a charity festival bringing together people around art, music, dance, photo, theater, tattoo, circus, games and food, with one motto : easy as one, two, three! And what is a better place to share a great moment of childhood with your family and friends than Chez Xuan restaurant, away from the Hanoi tumult in the Tay Ho neighbourhood.

From Midday to 6pm, people came to participate to our rock, paper, scissors tournament, knock over cans game and sack race, discover painting and pictures made especially for the festival, feel the groove of the dancers, and participates to our different creative workshops.

At 6pm until 11pm, the musical vibes will fill the place with the concert part! And if you have a little hunger or thirst, the good plates of Chez Xuan, the vietnamese food and tea of the families of our program and the NGO Life Project 4 Youth bakery will know how to satisfy it.

Programme: Art - Music - Dance - Photo - Tattoo - Games - Food

Line-up : SamRaz (Latino groove), Thiss Hard Crew (Beat Box), Slainte (Irish Rock), Rebel Monk (Hip Hop), Hanoi de Ska Y (Ska japonais), Bearded Holmes (Folk)

  • New office:

The owner of our previous office decided to sell it after a little bit more than a year inside, we had to move out and found a new cosy place that would host us. Moreover, it needed to be in the same neighborhood as our kids are registered in the schools around. And, we found the gem at the following address: 109 Nghia Dung, Phuc Xa (really 2 step away from our previous office)! A house of 5 floors with much more space for our tutoring classes, a room dedicated to the reading and relaxation, one for the computers and mezzanine where we settled our office.

  • New web site :

After few month of intense work, we finally launched the new website. Fully created and designed by Julien. What an amazing job he did! Now School on the Boat can enjoy a new support of communication. Much more than just an informational online support, this website will permit to share the evolution and the life of the NGO to the public, regularly feed with articles.

  • Trip to Cat Ba with the kids

The week end of the 20th to 22nd of October, the team and the 15 youngest kids from the program went to Cat Ba. A wonderful trip in which the kids could discover new landscapes and the sea for their first time. During the week end, we visited some nice touristic sites: Hospital cave, natural park, boat tour on Ha Long Bay, Monkey Island and Cat Ba’s beach. Everything went perfectly during the week end, the kids were really good and happy. It was the first time that they saw and went to sea. A privilege for the team who could witness this moment.
