Lucky Money

February 28, 2015

Tết is like Christmas for the Vietnamese kids. Schools are closed. Family gathers around. For the Tết, the association has distributed money envelopes, tokens of good wishes and good luck, to the children in order to observe the Vietnamese tradition.

Red is the color of prosperity and great luck according to Asian’s beliefs. By giving a red lucky pocket to a kid you tell him your hope for him to eat more, grow rapidly to study well and to have a fulfilling lunar year. Asians also believe that the small amount of money can bring good fortune to the upcoming year. According to the myth, the deities rescued a village by turning into gold coin.
